Demetri Sampas has been following Theranos for over ten years now, for several reasons: Being in the space of early detection and diagnostics, it is important for him to be aware of how things can go very wrong, and to know how to prevent these problems from occurring in the first place. However, his interest in Theranos pre-dates Mal-ID. Early on in finding his calling as an entrepreneur, he was fascinated by the startup and venture capital culture in Silicon Valley that may have set the stage for Theranos. Finally, he had become a legal junkie lately, though primarily for practical purposes. Following this case and attending the trial has taught him enormously about the process and the profession.

Demetri Sampas is an economist and data scientist by trade, but a serial entrepreneur at heart.
His passion for applying machine learning and artificial intelligence towards solving important problems for humankind led him to co-found Mal-ID, a medical tech startup developing AI-powered cancer detection. Demetri has served as the CEO since 2017, leading a team of 5 talented individuals.

In addition to the numerous hats he wears at Mal-ID, Demetri is also a pipe organ and pianist, serving two Boston area churches and performing as a recitalist and accompanist. Demetri is a 2021 member of Boston Rotary Club #7. He is a 2013 graduate of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA, holding a BA in economics.
