Dr. Thomas M. McGovern, President President McGovernof Fisher College and Rotary Club of Boston #7 member  will speak Wednesday on the topic of Higher Education.

Thomas M. McGovern, Ed.D. was appointed the eighth president of Fisher College in October 2007, following over three decades of educating Fisher students and spearheading the College's expansion into a baccalaureate institution through his oversight of the management program. During his tenure at Fisher College he has distinguished himself as an innovator and visionary leader, fueling Fisher's evolution into one of the fastest growing institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Dr. McGovern's tenure as President is marked by a variety of successful leadership and professional achievements, including an increase in enrollment and retention, facility expansion, and the growth of degree offerings.

With his strong background in strategic planning, President McGovern is responsible for directing a college-wide strategic management team that boasted the largest enrollment in the school's history, as well as the addition of seven baccalaureate degrees. He is currently moving Fisher College toward its first master's degree offering. Furthermore, Dr. McGovern has demonstrated his commitment to, and concern for, the larger community beyond Fisher College while President. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Dr. McGovern has supported the launch of Fisher's Military to Management initiative that offers financial benefits and flexible degree options to veterans and active military personnel seeking higher education.He is also an advocate of the college's athletics program, and a strong supporter of Fisher alumni, encouraging engagement in the life of their alma mater.

Prior to his entry into the field of higher education, Dr. McGovern had established himself as a leader in the field of transportation management. As the former Governor's Representative (GR) for Highway Safety and Executive Director of the Massachusetts Governor's Highway Safety Bureau (GHSB), Dr. McGovern has extensive experience in research-based highway safety programs and administration. Capitalizing on his highway safety experience, he launched the Fisher College Transportation Safety Initiative. This initiative supports all standards and problem areas as identified by the National Traffic
Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), educating students and the community on the dangers of distracted driving and safe driving habits. Also rooted in his strong belief in and commitment to public safety, Dr. McGovern created the Center for Leadership and Public Service (CLPS) in 2007, a division of Fisher College that encourages and inspires students to pursue careers in public safety and criminal justice through real-life research projects and work experience.

With respect to his educational background, professional training, and academic expertise, Dr. McGovern holds a Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University's School of Management, a Master's in Public Administration from Suffolk University's Sawyer School of Management, and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Johnson and Wales University.
