Solar costs have decreased by 80% since 2011 and, for the first time, solar can save ordinary households money on their electricity bills. Yet, 80% of Americans are effectively locked out of the solar market. These households include those who rent their homes, own a condo, have inadequate credit, or possess a non-optimal roof (e.g. a roof covered by a tree or facing the wrong way). The problem is especially severe among low-to-moderate income families, who disproportionately are unable to avail themselves of solar savings due to high credit minimums and long contract lengths required by solar financiers.
Solstice’s mission is to put affordable solar within reach of every American. We do this by connecting households to solar farms in their neighborhood and by researching new financial inclusion mechanisms through the Department of Energy. With your help, we can democratize clean energy and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
