MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES
Membership Goals
Membership in Rotary enriches your life by expanding your circle of friends and provides wonderful opportunities for service to humanity. A primary goal of the club is to continually expand the club with committed members who have the interest and ability to get involved in service and humanitarian projects.
It is an honor to be a Rotarian
By joining Rotary International, you will be a member of the oldest service organization in the world. The Rotary Club of Boston is one of more than 30,000 clubs that comprise Rotary International in 160 nations providing opportunities of fellowship and service for over a million Rotarians worldwide.
Prospective members must:
- Hold - or be retired from - a professional, proprietary, executive, academic or managerial position;
- Have the capacity to meet the club's monthly attendance or project participation requirements;
- Live or work within the locality of the club or the surrounding area.
Invitation to apply for membership
The Rotary Club of Boston invites individuals to join and become members.
Often a person being considered for membership is invited by a member/sponsor to attend one or more club meetings to learn more about Rotary. The sponsor may then submit the name of the candidate to the club's membership committee for follow-up.
Also an individual, who doesn't know any Rotarians but is interested in membership and would like to deepen friendships with people who are interested in creating a better world, can contact the club directly and express interest in membership by contacting the Membership Director by email to membership@bostonrotary.org
The membership process
Before completing the membership application, a sponsor will inform the applicant of the responsibilities of membership, which include regularly attending the weekly meetings, paying dues and eventually being prepared to accept positions of responsibility in the club as their own time permits. The sponsor will assist the candidate with completing the membership application, which will be submitted to Membership Director, who will forward it to the Club's Board of Directors for consideration.
The Board will consider the applicant for membership based on the membership application and knowledge of the individual. If the Board approves the applicant for membership, the candidate's application will be forwarded to the general club membership for its concurrence. This entire procedure takes normally two to three weeks during which the applicant continues to attend the club meetings.
Dues, Meal Payments and Charitable Giving
A candidate will be notified of the action of the club, and if approved for membership, will be invited to join the Rotary Club of Boston. With acceptance, the candidate will receive an invoice for dues. This bill must be paid prior to being inducted into membership.
Membership Fees
Dues may be paid online or by check, and must be paid on time in order to avoid late penalties.
- $250 per year for individual membership
- $250 per year for a non-profit membership (2 members of the organization may participate)
- $1,000.00 per year for a corporate membership (4 members from the organization may participate)
Monthly meeting charges may be paid online or at the door. Currently, the prices are $20 per meeting.
Charitable donations:
Members are encouraged to make tax-deductible donations to our own charitable foundations:
- The Rotary Foundation (Every-Rotarian-Every-Year $100)
- The Boston Rotary Charities Foundation (various fundraisers)
Induction Ceremony
A short, but meaningful, membership induction ceremony will be scheduled at a regular meeting at the convenience of the new member. The inductee is encouraged to invite family members or others to share in the ceremony and help commemorate the member's start in Rotary.
