Community Service
The Rotary Club of Boston cares about our beautiful City and contributes to its continual improvement. Our club takes this role seriously because we are the 7th oldest Rotary club worldwide out of 32,000, and we celebrated our hundredth birthday in 2009!
In the past years, our projects have included:
Boston Arthritis Foundation - Participated in the Arthritis Walk
Greater Boston Food Bank - Sorted and cleaned cans/boxes of food for food pantries
Home for Little Wanderers - Collected and repaired bicycles for orphans
Long IslandShelter for the Homeless - Collected and donated "tiny toiletries" and and gift-wrapped donations of Christmas clothing
Madison Park Vocational Technical High School
- Donated funds for Uniforms for students to be appropriately dressed for vocational training: Chefs' apparel, Electricians' belts, Hard hats, Hard toe boots, etc.
- Provided summer internships for students at Teen TV
New EnglandShelter for Homeless Veterans - Donated pizzason Veteran's Day
Rosie's Place - Served lunches and dinners
RYLA - Sponsored students for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award program at Camp Rotary
St. Stephan's Church,South End - Donated and distributed Thanksgiving turkeys
Salvation Army - Rang bells at Downtown Crossing during the holiday season
Salvation Army - Rang bells at Boston City Hall Plaza in memory of 9/11
Salvation Army - Volunteered at the gift and clothing distribution at The Christmas Castle
TenPoint Coalition - Provided start-up funding for first 10 years
VA Hospital in West Roxbury - Flower delivery and visits on Valentine's Day
WGBH Channel 2 Auctions - Telephone bid takers at annual auction
